Today, I made brigadeiro.
For those of you who don’t know me well, I am not good at cooking. At all. About a year ago, I tried to make beijinhhos — a typical Brazilian dessert that looks like this:

This is what I did:

Yes, I burned it. To be fair, it wasn’t bad at all (it was pretty good actually) but, probably not beijinho anymore.
Today, one year later, I tried making brigadeiros — the chocolate version:

And, voila:

Wait…why are you laughing?
I see, you are thinking “yeah bro, one year later, you are still pretty bad at this”. And you know, what? You are right.
But…no, you know what, you are not.
It was actually delicious (proof: I couldn’t get to take a picture soon enough before everyone ate half of it).
And this brings me to my main conclusion of this post (before the recipe), which I think is also a great cooking lesson: it’s impossible to screw up anything with condensed milk. No matter how bad you do it, it’s still delicious.
Patrick liked it, and he usually hates everything.
Anyway, if you want the recipe, here it is:
Serious Brigadeiro Recipe
- 1 can of sweetened condensed milk (doesn’t matter which brand)
- 1/3 of a stick of butter
- 4 spoons of Nesquik powder
So, right there you spend $7 on dessert for three to five people for at least two days.
The instructions are simple:
A) Turn on the heat in medium (4/10).
B) Put everything in.
C) Continuously stir, with alternating patters of clockwise and counter-clockwise motion, for ten minutes. When you feel like it’s starting to stick to the bottom, turn off the heat and transfer the output to a different container.
D) Put on the fridge for a few minutes just so it cools down a bit.
E) Enjoy. If you are not completely lazy like me, make spheres with it and add sprinkles. If you are going to do that, just coat your hands with very little butter, so the chcoolate doesn’t stick to you.
