A Creed for a New Year

DSC09166Above: Seriously, what do we even do with these?

A creed for a new year. Well, not really a “year,” I guess, because our academic lives are now (hopefully temporarily) finished and the year now runs from January to December, like it does for normal people, instead of from August to May, like it does for the demographic of people of which we were very recently a part and now sadly are no longer a part—namely, college students. Yeah, we talk in very convoluted ways and have a habit of making useless clarifications, but you’ll get used to that, unless of course you stop reading the blog, which is entirely your right as a consumer of blog-content under the system of American capitalism.

But anyways, onto the creed. As someone who majored in theology, I can inform you that (1) yes, I am unemployed and (2) the word “creed” in Latin is symbolum—a creed is the symbol, it is the representation of something. Recently a friend of ours expressed with quasi-poetic vagueness what exactly young semi-directionless twentysomethings face in this post-college period of transition,1 and I thought it the perfect representation, the perfect creed (Woahahao, see what I did there) of our life situation:

At this point in time, I’m really figuring out who I really am, what kind of person I really am, as well as the approach I will now have to take

Horrendously vague and unspecific, but not inaccurate. Please join us on this adventure as we figure out who we really are, what kind of people we really are, as well as the approach we will now have to take!

1As you can tell, I really like dashes. This will also be a recurring theme.
